According to AFP and other news agencies on the 16th (local time), Claudel's "The Mature Age" was sold for 3.1 million euros (approximately 4.7 billion won), far exceeding the estimated price (2.3-3 billion won) at an auction held at the Orleans Auction House, south of Paris.

Auctioneer Mathieu Semont explained the reason the work was up for auction, saying, "It was discovered by chance in September of last year in an abandoned apartment near the Eiffel Tower after having been neglected for about 15 years."

'The Age of Maturity' is a work that Claudel created after breaking up with sculptor Auguste Rodin. It depicts an old man being led by an old woman and a young woman kneeling before him and pleading, and it is considered to symbolically express her failed love with Rodin.

Two other versions of the sculpture are currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and the Camille Claudel Museum on the outskirts of Paris.

On the other hand, not many of Claudel's works remain today. This is because many of her works were destroyed by her brother before he confined her to a mental hospital in 1913.

One of Claudel's representative works, 'The Waltz', was sold for $8 million (about 11.5 billion won) at an auction in 2013.
