LG Electronics has conducted a voluntary recall (defect compensation) for 500,000 electric range purchasers in the United States.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on the 10th, LG Electronics voluntarily recalled 500,000 units of 22 models, including the LDE4411ST, on the 6th (local time).

The products in question are electric ovens with front-mounted handles, and it is known that there is a risk of fire when the oven turns on when people or pets come into contact with them.

The CPSC said that there were more than 86 cases of the front-mounted handles unintentionally operating. Five of these cases resulted in fires, causing $340,000 in property damage, and at least eight injuries, including burns, and three deaths of pets were also reported.

According to LG Electronics, products sold since last year have labels related to this, while products manufactured before last year did not. However, the user manual contains information on how to use the safety device.

Accordingly, CPSC recommended LG Electronics to conduct a voluntary recall and distribute labels to customers who use products shipped without labels attached.

Accordingly, LG Electronics USA announced that it will provide free labels on how to use safety devices to customers who purchase the electric ranges in question. In addition, it produced a video on how to use safety devices and posted it on its website. An

LG Electronics official explained, "LG Electronics electric ranges are the only brands sold domestically that have a locking device," and "CPSC recommended this because we need to inform consumers more about the 'control lock' function that prevents the product from operating even if the handle is turned." He

continued, "In Korea, recall is used to mean taking action on a product when there is damage to property or life, but in the United States, it is used in a broader sense," and emphasized, "CPSC's recommendation is for the purpose of conducting a safety campaign."

However, it has been reported that the fire accident caused by a malfunction in the front handle that occurred earlier occurred on products with labels attached, regardless of whether or not the labels were attached.

Meanwhile, in August of last year, Samsung Electronics also received a recall order from the CPSC for 1.12 million units of 30 models of microwave ovens sold in North America and provided handle locks or covers free of charge.
