[Jung Gu-min's Look Inside] Mobile carrier LLM service leading to exports
[Jung Gu-min's Look Inside] The world's largest mobile communications exhibition, 'Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025', will be held in Barcelona, Spain until the 6th (local time).
Due to the characteristics of mobile communications with a lot of voice calls, the application of giant language models (LLMs) is becoming more important.

Major mobile carriers that have invested heavily in artificial intelligence are increasingly providing LLM models or application services to other countries or other operators.
Various related cases were presented at MWC 2025.
Global Telco AI Alliance led by SKT
SKT announced the Global Telco AI Alliance (GTAA) at MWC 2024.
This alliance was participated by Deutsche Telekom from Germany, E& from the United Arab Emirates, Singtel from Singapore, and SoftBank from Japan.
At MWC 2025, cooperation with GTAA was further strengthened and specific directions were presented.
SKT is expected to take the lead in GTAA and engage in global cooperation based on its experience in mobile LLM services based on AI technology development and cooperation with investment companies.

LG Uplus's plan to advance into the Middle East
Late last year, LG Uplus introduced Ixigen, a generative AI technology for mobile communications, and Ixios, a related service, based on the LG AI Research Institute's ExaOne.
At MWC 2025, LG Uplus announced a collaboration with Zain Group, which provides mobile communications services in the Middle East and Africa.
LG Uplus plans to provide mobile communications-related AI services in the Middle East and Africa, starting with Saudi Arabia.
The company announced that it plans to launch the service in Saudi Arabia within the year.
Orange Telecom's entry into Africa Orange
Telecom, a European mobile carrier, plans to expand its LLM service that learns African languages to the African region.
At MWC 2025, Orange Telecom announced that it has launched commercial services starting with Orange Senegal.
Based on existing LLM models such as Metarama 3, it is providing mobile-based LLM services by learning the Senegalese language.

GSMA's Open Telco LLM Benchmark
The GSMA, which is hosting the MWC, announced an open source community initiative for future mobile LLM evaluation and performance improvement.
This meeting is attended by mobile carriers such as SKT and LG Uplus of Korea, Deutsche Telekom of Germany, and Turkcell of Turkey, as well as equipment manufacturer Huawei of China, AI company Hugging Face, Khalifa University of the Middle East, and the Linux Foundation.
In the future, we plan to evaluate AI models with a standardized benchmarking framework for telecommunications companies, AI companies, etc., and help expand the mobile telecommunications LLM business.

Mobile telecommunications LLM revenue modeling
Like the trend of MWC where 'AI' is newly emphasized in addition to the existing 'telecommunications', the LLM service of leading telecommunications companies is becoming a new revenue model for latecomers.
If mobile telecommunications networks were exported in the 5G era, a model that exports related services will emerge in the era of generative AI.
Company officials predicted that mobile telecommunications LLM services will be able to expand to regions such as Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. We look forward to good performance by Korean companies in related markets in 2025.
