"Nvidia's 'Blackwell'-equipped products distributed in China despite US control"

Despite US export controls, foreign media outlets are reporting that products equipped with Nvidia's latest artificial intelligence (AI) chip, Blackwell, are still being traded in China.

According to foreign media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 2nd (local time), Chinese sellers are said to be selling servers equipped with Nvidia Blackwell chips through companies in third countries. Some sellers are reported to be advertising that delivery is possible within six weeks.

This is an example showing that Nvidia's advanced AI chips are continuing to be traded in China despite US sanctions, the WSJ reported.

A seller in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China told the WSJ that it received an order for more than 10 Blackwell servers from a Shanghai customer in January and plans to deliver them by the middle of this month.

These sellers are reported to be purchasing servers from data center operators in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Taiwan or official customers of NVIDIA through companies registered outside of mainland China, and then reselling them to China.

NVIDIA began shipping Blackwell-related products in December of last year, and a Blackwell server equipped with eight AI processors is selling for more than $600,000 (about 870 million won) in China.

In addition, a server with eight H200 chips is selling for about $250,000 (about 360 million won) in China, which is slightly higher than the global market price. Sellers are advertising that 10 can be shipped immediately and more than 100 can be delivered within a month.

NVIDIA stated that it is investigating the matter and plans to take necessary measures.

Bloomberg News reported last month that the Trump administration is planning to strengthen control over semiconductors from China, following the former Joe Biden administration.

This is said to be due to Nvidia's move to further limit the amount and type of semiconductors that can be exported to China without separate licenses.
