"TSMC proposes joint investment in Intel foundry to NVIDIA, AMD, and Qualcomm"

There is a report that Taiwan TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor foundry, has proposed a joint investment in Intel Foundry to Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, and Qualcomm.

Reuters reported on the 11th (local time), citing a source, that "TSMC has proposed to Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, and Qualcomm to establish a joint venture (JV) and then acquire a stake in Intel Foundry."

It is known that the stake in Intel Foundry that TSMC is attempting to acquire together with these companies is less than 50%.

Reuters analyzed that TSMC came up with an ingenious plan to acquire Intel Foundry, citing that "the Trump administration is wary of 'complete foreign ownership' of Intel Foundry."

In fact, all of the companies that TSMC proposed a joint acquisition to are American, except for Broadcom, which is based in Singapore.

If TSMC succeeds in acquiring Intel Foundry shares, its market share, which stood at 67.1% in the fourth quarter of last year, is expected to expand further.

On the other hand, there are also observations that Samsung Electronics' pursuit of TSMC could become more difficult. Samsung Electronics' foundry market share in the fourth quarter of last year was 8.1%, which has been cut in half over the past three years.
