SGS, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a global testing and certification agency that provides strict quality and safety standards in various industries including electronics, food, and the environment. SGS tested the 'quantum dot film' used in Samsung Electronics' QLED TV and confirmed that cadmium was not detected and that it complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standards.
With this, Samsung Electronics has officially proven the excellence of the 'cadmium-free' technology of its 'quantum dot film' and has also been recognized for the safety of the viewing environment by meeting the European Union's (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.
QLED TVs, which Samsung Electronics has focused on research and development since 2014, sold 2.75 million units in the global TV market last year. Their share of the entire TV market amounts to 10.9%.
"Samsung QLED TV not only boasts excellent picture quality, but is also based on safe technology that meets hazardous substance restriction standards," said Son Tae-yong, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "With this SGS certification sufficiently proving its safety, we will continue to develop sustainable, eco-friendly display technology going forward."
