According to global review site Metacritic on the 30th, Claire Obscur's expert Metacritic score was 92, and user ratings were 9.7. The PC, PS5, and Xbox versions all received over 90 points. This is the highest score among global new releases this year.

The PC Steam platform evaluation also recorded a 'very positive' rating with 92% of the 19,169 total evaluations. It is ranked 2nd in sales on the Smilegate Stove platform, and achieved a '100% recommendation' rating from users.

Such favorable reviews have led to performance. It surpassed 1 million copies in global sales in just 3 days after its release, and has received attention with over 120,000 concurrent users to date.

Claire Obscur is a JRPG-style turn-based RPG based on the fantasy Belle Époque worldview. It features a unique worldview based on France during the Belle Époque era, deep characterization, emotional directing, and a 'reactive turn-based battle system' that combines real-time action elements.

The part that the development team put the most effort into when signing a distribution contract with Smilegate was localization. In fact, users left comments such as "The translation sensibility of the story, character dialogue, and subtitles is very appropriate" and "It seems that the local optimization was very well done."

The development team said, "We had in-depth discussions with the Korean team about the story, theme, characters, and tone, and we shared our philosophical approach and adjusted the tone to fit the game through the translation of key terms and expedition journals in the early stages of translation." They added, "Localization is closer to art than science, and the Korean translation team put a lot of effort into faithfully conveying the emotional depth of the original text."

Last year, Smilegate discovered Claire Obscur, a French startup developer Sandfall Interactive, at 'Gamescom 2024' in Germany and signed a distribution contract. It is evaluated that Smilegate's foresight, which has been meeting indie games and developers with high potential through 'Stove', has shone.

An industry insider said, "In a conservative market centered on blockbusters, Smilegate is creating a new trend with an experimental publishing strategy," and "The Claire Obscur case will have a significant impact on the publishing industry as a whole."
