LG Electronics Demonstrates Next-Generation Satellite Voice Communication Solution in Paris
LG Electronics demonstrated for the first time a next-generation satellite-based voice communication solution that will dramatically improve driver safety at the 34th General Assembly of the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) held in Paris, France on the 15th (local time).
This solution is aimed at implementing voice communication at the level of conversation within a vehicle by using non-terrestrial communication networks (NTN) that operate outside the atmosphere, such as satellites .

LG Electronics explains that this is the first time that voice communication has been demonstrated to the extent that two-way communication is possible beyond short voice transmissions.
NTN-based communication is considered one of the key technologies for driver safety as it enables connection through non-terrestrial communication networks even in areas where network connectivity is not smooth, such as deserts and mountainous areas, or when infrastructure is paralyzed due to disasters or natural calamities.
LG Electronics has released a next-generation solution that can significantly reduce the size of voice messages by adding AI voice processing technology to existing NTN-based communication technology and expand the satellite communication service area, which is currently limited to emergency text messages due to data capacity issues required for transmission, to voice.
This makes voice message transmission speeds more than 10 times faster. It is now possible to have conversations, not just send and receive simple voice messages.
Passengers in danger can simply press the emergency call button on the vehicle's screen to send messages to rescue centers equipped with satellite communication using voice alone and explain the situation without any additional operations such as text input.
On this day, LG Electronics demonstrated a voice communication service that does not interrupt even when the network environment changes by driving a car equipped with next-generation voice communication technology in the city of Paris for the first time.
5GAA is a global vehicle communication alliance established in 2016 to research and commercialize future automobiles such as autonomous vehicles and connected cars. More than 110 companies, including major automakers, electrical parts manufacturers, telecommunications companies, chipset and communication equipment manufacturers, are participating. Lee Sang-yong,
head of LG Electronics VS Research Center (Vice President), said, "We will advance the innovation of connected mobility through next-generation voice communication technology for automobile connectivity without constraints on situation and location."
