Samsung Electronics' 1Q US Sales Up 24%... Alphabet Enters Top 5 Sales Sources

Samsung Electronics' sales in the US increased 24% in the first quarter of this year, but sales in China decreased 12%.



Looking at sales by major region (separate) in the quarterly report disclosed by Samsung Electronics on the 15th, they were tallied as follows: △Domestic 6.845 trillion won △America 17.5953 trillion won △Europe 8.1947 trillion won △Asia/Africa 10.7414 trillion won △China 12.919 trillion won.

Sales in China in the first quarter of this year decreased 12.4% year-on-year, while sales in the US increased 24.5%. Sales in Asia/Africa increased 22.3% and Europe increased 9.2%. In Korea, it maintained a similar level with a slight increase of 0.08%. As



sales growth in the US and China diverge, changes are also detected in the five major sales channels. Supreme Electronics, a Chinese semiconductor distributor that was included in the top five customers until the end of last year, has been removed, and Google's parent company Alphabet has been added.



Samsung Electronics' top five customers in the first quarter were Alphabet, Apple, Deutsche Telekom, Hong Kong Techtronics, and Verizon. These five companies accounted for about 12% of Samsung Electronics' total sales.



In the case of Alphabet, it is interpreted that its transactions with Samsung Electronics increased in investments in related infrastructure such as data centers.



Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics' R&D investment in the first quarter was 9.348 trillion won.



This is a 15.5% increase from the 7.8201 trillion won spent on R&D in the first quarter of last year. During this period, the number of domestic patent applications was 2,364, and the number of U.S. patents was registered was 2,357.
